Friday September 19th, marked the ninth year of the annual Park(ing) Day global event in which designers, artists, and citizens convert street parking spaces to temporary public open spaces for all to enjoy.

Dynamic and participatory are two words that can describe  The School of Landscape Architecture’s dedicated ASLA student affiliate chapter installation that was located at 460 Townsend Street. Their installation allowed pedestrians to be a part of Park(ing) Day by encouraging them to design the selected parking space the way they envisioned it.

Using cut-outs of the various elements that the students had available on site, pedestrians were able to envision the space in plan view on a magnetic board, then watch it come to life as the student team assembled the design before their very eyes.

By the end of the day, the students had assembled over fifteen different variations of the design which they were able to capture in a fantastic video that can be viewed here.
